Markings: The top of the left barrel is marked “SAB Renato Gamba Gardone VT Brescia Italy”, the top of the right “Firing Line Aurora Co.”. The bottom of each barrel has Italian proofs with “***” on the left and “****” on the right. The barrel flats are marked “24514”, “SAB” in oval, “BI” in box date code, “12-70” in oval and with Italian proofs. The inside of the forend is stamped “514”, the forend iron is marked “24514”. The water table is marked “24514”, “SAB” in oval, “12-70” in oval and with Italian proofs. The guard is marked “24514”. The bottom of the receiver is marked “MOD. 624 EXTRA”. The receiver has deep relief foliate scroll engraving with motif continuing on the lever, guard, and exposed portions of the forend iron.

Sights / Optics: There is a white bead at the front of the rib. The top of the rib is finely textured for glare reduction.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with splinter forend, straight grip, straight comb, and checkered black plastic Renato Gamba buttplate. The stocks have minor handling wear with a few scattered light nicks and scratches. The most notable marks are scratches in the left of the wrist in front of the checkering and a vertical scratch in the right wrist checkering. The checkering is well defined, generally sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures approximately 14 1/2 and 13 5/8? from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the buttplate. Drop at comb is approximately 1 1/2?, drop at heel 2 1/8?. The cast is about neutral. The buttplate has light wear around the heel with well defined checkering and lettering. Overall, the stocks are in about Fine-plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are Bright. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. The balance is mostly in scattered light surface oxidation around the breech-end of the barrels including on the barrel lugs. The action shows minor operational wear. Otherwise, there are only a few scattered light marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly including ejectors. The safety does not return to safe when the action is opened but functions properly when engaged manually. The barrels lock up to the receiver with no play. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun comes in a Renato Gamba luggage case with canvas and faux-leather exterior, brass locking latches (two keys included), green felt-lined interior with compartments for the barrel assembly, receiver assembly and a lidded compartment for accessories, and a leather carry handle with brass mounts. The case has scattered light storage wear on the interior and exterior, with some more notable wear at the left-rear corner of the lid portion and separation of the faux-leather at the ends.
Our Assessment: With their trademark first established in 1748, the Gamba family has a long history of producing firearms along with other famous names from Val Trompia, Italy. These shotguns have not found the same fame and interest as Beretta, Perazzi, Franchi, etc. but their owners will tell you that they are every bit the gun as any other V.T. maker’s. This example is in Fine-plus condition and comes with a nice case to store and transport it. This would make a fine fowling or sporting piece with 27 1/2? barrels chambered for 2 3/4? 12 Gauge shells. Choked Modified and Improved Cylinder with a straight stock and coming in right under 7 pounds, this configuration will make for a fast-handling and versatile gun for hunting and will turn some heads on the range, too. This is a beautiful shotgun made by one of the finest gunmakers in Italy and will take a prized place in any hunter’s collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
