Markings: The right side of the frame is marked with the serial number and “PARA-ORDNANCE INC. / FT. LAUDERDALE FL.”. The right side of the slide is marked “SSP”. The bottom of the dust cover is marked “MADE IN CANADA”. The top of the barrel visible through the ejection port is marked with the Para logo followed by “.38 SUPER”. The left side of the slide is marked “Para X 1911”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade with a recessed white dot and is dovetailed into the slide. The rear sight is a low mount style sight with a square notch with a serrated rear face and two recessed white dots; it is dovetailed into the slide and also has a set screw.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered double-diamond wood with Para crests. Rubber finger grooves have been installed on the front strap. There are light handling marks, no major defects. The checkering is sharp. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are some minor scuffs and light draglines, most noticeable on the slide flats. There is a light takedown mark on the frame. There is standard operational wear. The screw sockets are strong and the markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger breaks crisply and has a nice reset. The slide to frame fit is snug. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a soft case, magazine pouch, and two 9-round magazines.

Our Assessment: While most known for their double-stack 1911s, this is a single stack offering from Para-Ordnance dubbed the SSP. This example is in Excellent condition with hardly any sign of use. It has an extended beavertail safety, full-length guide rod, extended thumb safety, skeletonized hammer & trigger, and a lo-mount style rear sight. Tasteful upgrades added to a timeless design should prove to be a fantastic shooter. This one looks sharp with its stainless finish and checkered double diamond wood grips, with its good bore it should shoot as good as it looks. This one looks to hardly have been out of the case and is waiting for a spot in your safe. Please see our photos and good luck!
