The stock, sights, and scope assembly are described below.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture set between protective wings. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice . The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two and “NIC”.

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The face of the grip is marked with 2 “circled P” proofs. The left side of the stock, above the trigger, is marked with a “boxed” Springfield Armory inspector’s cartouche that contains “S.A.”. The wood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, two sling loops, stacking loop and a metal buttplate with a hinged door for storage. There is cleaning gear stored in the butt. The buttplate shows surface erosion and a brown patina. The wood shows several scrapes & scratches.The most prominent marks are on the handguards. The LOP measures 13 ? inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright. The grooves near the muzzle are semi bright. The rifling is deep. There is fouling and intermittent light erosion in the grooves near the muzzle. The bore shows an M.E. of 1.2. The throat shows a T.E. of 2.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish as refinished. The barrel and gas tube show scrapes. The receiver shows several scrapes & scratches. The right side of the receiver shows light thinning from cycling. The markings are well defined. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle has cleaning gear stored in the butt. The gear includes a plastic oiler tube, combination tool, grease pot, and a 4 piece cleaning rod with loop & nylon pouch. The nylon pouch shows  soiling. The grease pot and oiler show scrapes, scuffs & small scratches. The items show all show use. They are in about Very Good condition.

Our Assessment: This Springfield M1 Garand Rifle was originally built back in 1943. It has since been rebuilt using Springfield parts and a scarce Marlin barrel. Marlin was a subcontractor for M1 Garand barrels in the 1950’s but had issues with production. This M1 Garand looks good and has a strong bore. This rifle should keep you smiling at the range.
