Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number at the breech and “Remington / MODEL 700” at the midsection. The left side of the barrel is marked with a warning above “REMINGTON ARMS CO. INC., ILION, N.Y. U.S.A.”, “308 WIN.”, and is also marked with an inspection mark and “PP X” at the receiver. The right side of the barrel is marked with magnaflux, proof, and test marks at the breech. The bolt is matched to the rifle and the bottom is marked “0596”.

Barrel Length: 26” Fluted

Sights / Optics: There is no provision for iron sights. The top of the receiver is installed with a pair of bases.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is textured composite with gray webbing, a pistol grip, a straight comb, and a black rubber buttpad. There is a sling stud in the belly and a hole for a missing stud in the bottom of the forend. A patch of epoxy has been applied to the left of the forend and sanded down. There are a few spots of finish loss on the bottom of the forend at the very front. There are some scuffs. There are some light handling marks and some of the texturing is slightly smooth. The LOP measures 13 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the basketweave rubber Remington buttpad. The buttpad has some light wear. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are some scuffs and rubs on the bolt handle that have caused smooth spots. There are some spots of oxidation on the rear of the bolt. There are a few little marks on the edges of the trigger guard and a few little marks scattered over it. The barrel has light handling marks and a few little scuffs that have caused smooth spots to the matte finish. There are some little scratches and nicks on the barrel. The markings are strong, the screw heads are sharp to lightly worn with strong sockets. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Remington 700 needs no introduction. It has been one of the most popular bolt action rifles in America for decades, seeing use in target shooting, hunting, and in law enforcement. The 700 has been made in just about any configuration you can imagine, and if it hasn’t the parts are out there for you to do it yourself. This example has a 26″ fluted barrel chambered for .308 Winchester, a textured synthetic stock with a straight comb, and a stainless finish. This one will be great for target shooting or varmint hunting as soon as you install an optic of your choice.
