Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “-WINCHESTER ® MODEL 70 375 H&H MAG.- / ——MADE IN NEW HAVEN. CT U.S.A.——”, the rear has an ovalled “WP” proof. The right side of the barrel is marked “—CLASSIC STAINLESS—” The left of the receiver is marked “——WINCHESTER®—— / TRADE MARK”. The right of the chamber ring is marked with the serial number, “G296349”, and the bolt is serial-matching, hand-scribed “6349”. The buttpad is marked with a Winchester logo.

Barrel Length: 24″

Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade with a protective hood that is fixed to a ramped base that is itself fixed to the barrel. The receiver is drilled, tapped, and filled with two-piece Leupold bases for mounting an optic (none included).

Stock Configuration and Condition: The one-piece checkered synthetic stock features a pistol grip, fluted straight comb, sling studs front and rear, and a solid black rubber buttpad. There are light nicks and scuffs throughout along with more notable handling wear on either side of the buttstock. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The pad has minor wear and light scuffing. Overall, the stock is in about Very Good-plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is rather dark with well-defined rifling. There is no obvious in the bore, but there is light-to-moderate stubborn fouling throughout.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 89% of its metal finish. There are scattered spots of light surface oxidation across the metal. The barrel has intermittent minor nicks and scuffs down its length. The action has light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good-plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a safety mounted on the rear of the bolt. Pulled to the rear, the safety is ON, locking both the bolt and the trigger. If pulled back half-way, it blocks only the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 is an iconic American sporting rifle which has been a staple of hunters for more than 80 years. This example is a Classic model with a composite stock. The rifle appears to have spent more time out of the safe than in, with fairly consistent use-wear throughout. There’s no doubt this rifle put some food on the table.
