Markings: The import mark under the barrel reads “C.A.I. GEORGIA VT”. The top of the receiver is marked “U.S. CARBINE / CAL. .30 M1.” on the front and “ROCK-OLA / 4585878” on the rear. The barrel is marked “ROCK-OLA” and “P”. The gas piston housing is marked “ROCK-OLA” on the right. The left side of the barrel shank is marked with a “flaming bomb”. The trigger group is marked “INLAND” on the right rear which is an Inland mark (page 78 of Craig Riesch’s book, U.S. M1 Carbines Wartime Production 7th Edition). The hammer is marked “HI” (partial) which is an Inland mark (page 89). The Type IV magazine release is marked “M” and “EI” which is an Inland mark (page 100-101). The rotary safety is marked “circled S” which is a post WWII rebuild mark (page 95). The inside of the operating slide is marked “PI” which is an Inland mark (page 65). The bolt is marked “.U.” under the left lug which is an Underwood mark (page 36). The front sight is marked “N” which was used by other manufacturers (page 56). The Type II rear sight is marked “H in a shield” was used by Rock-Ola and others (page 29). The Type III barrel band is marked “AI” which is an Inland mark (pages 59). The inside of the handguard is marked “SC-B” which is an IBM mark (page 138). The top right edge of the forearm is marked “SA” which is a post WWII rebuild mark (page 108-109 & 185). The recoil plate is marked “ROCK-OLA” which is a Rock-Ola mark (page 135). The left side of the buttstock is marked with the serial number in large numbers. This is consistent with an Israeli issued, IDF marked M1 Carbine (page 193). The base of the grip is marked with a small “circled 1”.

Barrel Length: Approximately 18 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a post set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a Type II adjustable aperture assembly.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece hardwood stock has a pistol grip, Type III barrel band with sling loop & bayonet lug, sling well, sling pass through and a metal buttplate. The buttplate shows several small scratches, a few small dents and oxidation. The belly of the stock has a large “asterisk” scratched into it. The wood shows numerous scrapes, scratches and compression marks. Several of the marks have damaged or removed small portions of the surface wood. These marks have been oiled over. The LOP measures 13 1/4  inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original to Rebuild

Bore Condition: The lands are bright, the grooves are semi bright, and the rifling is deep. The grooves near the muzzle are light grey. There is fouling and intermittent erosion in the grooves. The bore shows an M.E. of 3.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 80% of its metal finish. The barrel and trigger group show scrapes & thinning under the wood. The barrel also shows patches of surface erosion under the wood. The remaining metal shows scrapes, small scratches, and discoloration from oxidation. Most of the markings are deep. The barrel markings are lightly struck. Overall, this rifle rates in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: There is NO magazine.

Our Assessment: This Rock-Ola M1 Carbine was madback in in 1944. It has been rebuilt but still retains many of its original Rock-Ola parts. After WWII this M1 Carbine ended up serving in Israel. The rifle was eventually imported back to the U.S. for sales to the civilian market. This M1 carbine has an import mark on the barrel and the stock is marked with the serial number. The size and location of the serial number is consistent with an Israeli issued, IDF marked M1 Carbine. This is an M1 carbine with some history behind it. Good luck.
