Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “FABRIQUE NATIONALE HERSTAL BELGIQUE / BROWNING’S PATENT DEPOSE”. The right side of the slide is marked “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY / MORGAN, UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q. / MADE IN BELGIUM”. The barrel is marked “CAL.9mmP”. The front strap is marked “245RR77494”. The right bow of the trigger guard is marked with a Belgian proof and an inspector’s mark, the left is marked “X”. The right side of the barrel lug is marked with a “* / M” inspection mark and a Belgian proof mark and the left side with some small factory markings. The bottom of the firing pin housing is marked with a Belgian proof and several small factory markings.

Barrel Length: 4 5/8”

Sights / Optics: The pistol is equipped with Type 2 tangent sights. The front sight is a serrated, tapered blade dovetailed to a boss at the front of the slide. The rear sight is a “V”-notch tangent sight in a base integral to the slide. The arm graduates from “50” to “500” meters.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered wood panels. The grips show light marks from handling and the left panel has a minor compression at the rear. There is a minor interruption on the right side panel checkering. The checkering is generally sharp. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips rate in about Fine-Plus condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 96% of its metal finish. There are some faint freckles of oxidation on either side of the frame. There is a very small spot of finish loss and pitting on the left side of the frame towards the front. There is light dried grease in some of the crevices. The action has faint operational wear. The screw heads are sharp and the pins are clean. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in about Fine-Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger is crisp. The magazine disconnect is present and functional. There is slight play between the slide and frame. We have not fired this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes in a wood Browning case with blue felt interior and includes a single 13-round magazine. Please note, no magazine will be included where prohibited by law.

Our Assessment: This is a Browning Hi-Power manufactured in Belgium in 1977. This is an early commercial example equipped with type 2 tangent sights that were commonly found on Hi Powers used in World War II. The commercial Hi Powers carry a reputation for being quality made pistols that perform well and are also sought after for their collector value. This truly sexy example retains about 96% of its original finish and is in about Fine-Plus condition. The bore is bright and the trigger breaks crisp. Please see our photos and good luck!
