Trigger Group: “D28290-W.R.A.”- A Winchester part (page 90 of Joe Poyer’s M1 GARAND 1936 to 1957, 6th Edition).
Hammer: “C46008-1-W.R.A” marked on the side – A Winchester part (page 98).
Trigger Guard: “C46025 W.R.A.” – A Winchester part (page 92).
Safety: “C46015-4-W.R.A.” on the lower left – A Winchester part (page 103).
Follower: Unmarked – Used by all 4 manufacturers (page 83).
Receiver Leg: “D 28291-2” –Correct for the Winchester serial number (page 29). Also marked “RRAD / 6-66” in electric pencil. This indicates a Red River Army Depot rebuild in June of 1966.
Op Rod: “D35382 9 SA” – A Springfield part (page 71).
Barrel: “HRA D6535448 2-53 RS21”, “P”, and “M” – A Harrington & Richardson part (pages 61-63).
Bolt: “D28287-I W.R.A.” – A Winchester part (page 53).
The stock and sights are described below.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings.The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two and “UP arrow DOWN arrow / BATTLE triangle RANGE”.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The face of the grip is marked with a “P”. The bottom of the grip is marked “82”.
The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, stacking loop, two sling loops and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. The buttplate shows several small scratches, wear, and light surface erosion. The wood shows several scrapes and scratches. Some have damaged small portions of the surface wood. The LOP measures 13 ? inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original to Arsenal Rebuild

Bore Condition: The muzzle and grooves are grey. The rifling is deep. There is  fouling & intermittent erosion in the grooves and at the muzzle. The bore shows an M.E. of 2. The throat shows a T.E. of 3.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish. The gas tube and rear of the receiver have been refinished. The bolt has scratches and pin prick surface erosion showing through the finish. The metal shows scuffs, scrapes, and small scratches. Ther rear of the receiver shows discoloration. The front of the barrel & gas tube show thinning. The right side of the receiver and front of the bolt show light thinning consistent with cycling. The receiver markings are well defined. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester M1 Garand was made back in 1943. At some point the rifle was Arsenal Rebuilt and is marked with a Raritan Arsenal Rebuild mark on the receiver leg. The stock has been replaced since the Arsenal Rebuild. It is not stamped with Raritan marks. This is a good looking M1 Garand that will add to your WWII collection and can do tons of work at the range.
