Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “2147”, “STEYR1916?, at the rear with “K”, and a large “S”. The left side of the trigger guard is marked “2147”. The left side of the frame is marked with “K”. The right side of the frame is marked “W.n” and “16” with a Habsburg eagle between on the trigger guard bow. The bottom-rear barrel lug is marked “2147” and “K” over a circled “D”. The right side of the frame under the slide is marked “937” and the left side is marked “9”. The left side of the frame is marked with a horse over “1925”. We could not determine the meaning of this marking.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed into the front of the slide. The rear sight is a “V”-notch in the rear of the slide between its grasping ears.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered wood panels with smooth borders. The grips show handling wear with some scattered light nicks, dings and scuffs. There are a few minor nicks in the checkering. The checkering is otherwise generally sharp. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is gray with rounded yet defined rifling. There is erosion scattered through the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 85% of its current metal finish. The balance is mostly in scattered minor surface oxidation. There is thinning at the leading edges, most notably at the front of the slide. There are some scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads are tool marked with strong slots. Most remaining markings are clear, the horse over “1925” marking is obscure. Overall, this pistol is in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly and the slide is tight to the frame. The trigger is a little heavy, but breaks crisply. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Borrowing features from both the Roth-Steyr 1907 and the Colt 1900-1911 series of pistols, the Steyr M1912 is a rotating-locking barrel, internal magazine semi-automatic pistol. The pistol is frequently referred to as the Steyr-Hahn or “Steyr Hammer” due to its external hammer. The pistol was an Austro-Hungarian sidearm during WWI with other contracts for sales to Chile and Romania. This example was produced in 1916. One interesting thing about this gun is the left side frame marking of a flying horse over “1925”. Our research did not return any concrete information on this marking. This would make a fun and interesting research project. The pistol is in Very Good condition with 85% of its finish remaining, a fair bore and strong mechanics. Please see our photos and good luck!
