Markings: The left shoulder of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER / MADE IN U.S.A.” and “30-30” at the rear near the receiver. The top of the barrel is marked with a Winchester proof. The right shoulder of the barrel is marked “A Century of Leadership 1866-1966” in cursive script. The bottom of the receiver at the front is marked with the serial number. The upper tang is marked “WINCHESTER CENTENNIAL ‘66”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade that is dovetailed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a U-notch buckhorn elevator sight that is dovetailed to the top of the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth hardwood with an oiled finish that feature a capped forend, straight grip, straight comb, and a brass carbine-style buttplate. There are some infrequently scattered little draglines and minor compressions. There is a light scuff near the toe. There are no visible chips or cracks present. The LOP measures 13 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the brass buttplate which shows light tarnish and some scattered faint scratches. The stocks rate in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are some scattered light nicks and scratches, more so on the receiver than the barrel. There is very faint oxidation on the lever. The mechanics show operational wear. The markings are clear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The first Winchester rifle – the Winchester Model 1866 – was originally chambered for the rimfire .44 Henry. Nicknamed the “Yellow Boy” because of its receiver of a bronze/brass alloy called gunmetal, it was famous for its rugged construction and lever-action “repeating rifle” mechanism that allowed the user to fire a number of shots before having to reload. This is the Centennial 1866 produced in 1966. While it has a brass-colored frame like its namesake, it is essentially an 1894 Carbine. The rifle rates in Fine condition with about 95% original finish remaining. Chambered for 30-30, this would make a terrific, lightweight hunting rifle or a welcome addition to a Winchester collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
