Markings: The top of the rifle barrel is marked “—SAVAGE 24V SERIES D— / WESTFIELD . MA CAL. .357 MAG”. The left side of the shotgun barrel is marked “PROOF TESTED 20 GAUGE / —3 INCH CHAMBER—” and “PROOF TESTED 20 GAUGE / —3 INCH CHAMBER—”. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number, “D034077”.

Sights/Optics: The front sight is a serrated beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a flip up u-notch with a white triangle aiming reference. The rifle barrel has attached a rib that is drilled, tapped, and filled. The receiver has an integral u-notch channel that serves as a rear sight.
Stock Configuration and Condition: The stocks are two-piece press-checkered wood with checkered black-capped pistol grip and forend, monte-carlo comb, and serrated black hard rubber buttlate. The left side of the buttstock has two notable nicks. Otherwise, there are scattered minor compressions and nicks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14 1/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate has a few light scuffs near the toe and a few minor nicks in the serrations. Overall, the stocks rate in Very Good-plus condition.

Bore Condition: The rifle barrel is mostly bright, the rifling is well-defined, and there is no erosion. Light stubborn fouling can be seen throughout. The shotgun barrel is mostly bright as well with no erosion, but there is some minor stubborn fouling in spots.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. Either barrel has a few minor nicks and scuffs. The case color is still strong. Markings are clear. Screws are lightly tool marked with strong slots. Overall, this rifle/shotgun combo rates in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrel selector is in the hammer. The barrel assembly locks up tight with no play to the frame. We have not fired this rifle/shotgun combo. As mentioned above, the chamber has been reamed to accommodate .357 Maximum cartridges. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.

Our Assessment: The Model 22-410 was introduced in 1938 as a survival gun. The .22 Long Rifle barrel was good for small game/varmint hunting, while the .410 was good for turkey. Not a bad tool to put dinner on the table with! Introduced by Stevens in 1938, the 22-410 was produced until 1950 when Savage, after having acquired Stevens, re-branded the gun as the Model 24. This example—the 24X Series D—is in Fine condition, both bores are a little, the lock-up is tight, and mechanically everything is in good working order. Notable also is that a previous owner had the chamber reamed to allow for the use of .357 Maximum cartridges, making this rifle a 3-in-1. This rifle/shotgun combo has been well-taken care of and will last for years to come should the winning bidder treat it just as well. Good luck and happy bidding!
