The stock and sights are described below.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice and “DRC”. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The bottom of the grip is marked “5073”.
The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, stacking loop, two sling loops, and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. The buttplate shows several small scrapes & scratches and well as thinning. The right side of the stock is lighter in color than the rest of the stock body. The wood shows several scrapes, scratches and compression marks which have been oiled over. Some have damaged small portions of the surface wood. These marks have been finished or oiled over. The LOP measures 13 ? inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original to Rebuild

Bore Condition: The muzzle and grooves are light grey. The rifling is deep. There is fouling and intermittent light erosion in the grooves and at the muzzle. The bore shows an M.E. of 1.1. The throat shows a T.E. of 2.5.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The barrel & gas tube show scrapes. The right side of the receiver and the bolt both show a small amount of light thinning consistent with cycling. The markings on the metal are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was made back in 1945. At some point the rifle was rebuilt using all Springfield parts including a 1948 dated Springfield barrel. The rifle looks great and has a strong bore. It should be fun to shoot and will add to your Military or WWII collection.
