Model: Standard Modell. A commercial version of the K98. Also called a “Banner Rifle” for the “MAUSER“ banner on the top of the receiver.

Markings: The import mark on the barrel reads “Ger 8mm MMC H.B. CA 50990”. The top of the receiver is marked with the “MAUSER banner” and “1934”. The left side of the receiver is marked “B G U N” with a “crown” over each letter, with the serial number and “MAUSER-WERKE A-G. OBERNDORF A.N.”. The left side of the barrel shank is marked with the serial number. The bolt assembly is marked with the last four digits of the serial number in 4 places. The underside of the bolt handle is marked with several stampings. The rear of the bolt assembly is marked with an “eagle” inspection stamp. The bottom metal (twice), nosecap, barrel band and the left side of the butt are each marked with the serial number.
Barrel Length: Approximately 23 ¾ Inches
Sights / Optics: The front sight is an inverted “V” post on a ramped base. The rear sight is a “V” notched sliding elevator marked from “1-20”.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece hardwood stock has a pistol grip, nose cap with bayonet lug, hole for the included cleaning rod, barrel band with sling bar, through bolt, sling well, sling pass through, domed washer and a metal buttplate. The buttplate shows light oxidation. The wood shows a few scrapes & scratches. The wood also shows areas of discoloration. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition as refinished.

Bore Condition: The muzzle & grooves are grey and the rifling is deep. There is fouling and intermittent erosion in the grooves and at the muzzle. The fouling should clean up some.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish as refinished. Oxidation and areas of pin prick surface erosion show through the new finish. The metal shows scrapes & small scratches. The bottom metal also shows light discoloration. The screw heads show light use. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition as refinished.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes in a white cardboard box. The box’s markings include the rifle’s serial number, “Mitchell’s Mausers”, “Banner Model” and a gold seal that reads “MITCHELL’S MAUSERS / Premium Grade / MODEL K98”. The box shows scrapes, creasing and light discoloration. It is in about Very Good Plus condition. Inside of the large box is a second smaller box marked “Mitchell’s Mausers”. The small box contains 2 dual mag pouches, leather sling, stripper clips and a field cleaning fit. The small box is in about Fine condition. The accessories are still packed in plastic and appear to be in about Very Good Plus condition. Please see our photos to visually confirm the items included in the auction.
The rifle also comes with a “Mitchell’s Mausers” marked owner’s manual, Letter of Provenance and with a copy of the sales order. The owner’s manual is stored in a plastic sleeve and is in about Excellent condition. The Letter of Provenance is marked with the rifle’s serial number and “Mauser Banner Rifle Model K98”. It is slightly creased & bent. It is in about Fine condition. The sales order shows creasing and light discoloration. It is in about Very Good Plus condition.
Our Assessment: The Standard Modell Mauser (Banner Mauser) is a commercial variation of the German K98. This one has been refurbished by Mitchell’s Mausers. The refurbishment included refinishing the metal & wood. The rifle looks great, has deep markings and comes with accessories. This is a Nice looking K98 to add to your collection.
