Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”. The yoke cut is marked “MOD. / 15-3” while the yoke is marked with inspection marks. The butt of the grip frame is marked with the serial number “1K25197”. The sides of the grip frame are marked with inspection marks. The sideplate has a large S&W logo and the right side of the frame has the four line Marcas Registradas address. The right side of the barrel is marked “38 S.&W. SPL.”. The inside of the right grip panel is matched and marked “25197”.

Sights / Optics: This revolver is mounted with a serrated ramped front sight fixed to a solid ramped rib. There is a square notch micrometer click adjustable rear sight screwed to the topstrap

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered walnut magana stocks with S&W medallions. There is a ding through the finish on the front of the left panel. There is some finish loss on the bottom face of the right panel. There are a few scattered light marks. The checkering is sharp. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are a few infrequent light marks from use and storage. There are a couple light marks through the finish on the front of the yoke and frame that have light discoloration. There is a light turn line on the cylinder. The screw heads are mostly sharp, there is light wear on the grip screw. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly both single action and double action. We have not fired this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be required to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Smith & Wesson Model 15, also called the K-38 Combat Masterpiece, is another classic from Smith. Though firearms development has progressed since the ’60s, the name “Combat Masterpiece” was well earned by this revolver. Often issued by law enforcement agencies in the mid-20th century, this revolver embodies the reliability for which Smith & Wesson is famous.
