Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”. The left side of the slide has the S&W trademark logo. The left side of the frame is marked “15727 / MODEL-41″. The right side of the barrel is marked “22 LONG RIFLE CTG”. The right side of the slide is marked with the four-line Marcas Registradas address. The butt of the grip frame is marked “P”.
Barrel Length: 7 3/8”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a Patridge undercut blade integral to a rise at the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a white-outlined square-notch leaf in a base adjustable for windage and elevation pinned to the barrel “tail” which continues over the slide to the rear of the firearm. The top of the barrel is matte finished with a line of fine checkering for glare reduction.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The Herretts grips are two-piece aftermarket smooth wood with a large thumb shelf on the left, slight finger rest on the right, and an adjustable handrest attached to the bottom. There are a few compressions and scattered marks through the finish. There are some repaired cracks on the panels at the trigger guard. There are some light handling marks. Overall, the grips are in about Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This gun retains about 93% of its metal finish. There are some scuffs that have thinned the finish or caused finsih loss, most noticeable on the dust cover and on the trigger guard. There are some scrapes on the muzzle cover. There are some little spots of finsih loss from previous oxidation, most noticeable on the right side of the barrel at the front. There is a larger spot of finsih loss from previous oxidation on the left side of the barrel towards the front. There are some light scuffs and draglines. There are some little spots of frost on the back of the frame. There are some little nicks, mostly on the dust cover and trigger guard. The screw heads are lightly worn. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in about Very Good-Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The rear of the frame has cocking indicator. The trigger is light and crisp. We did not fire this gun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included are a blue box with metal reinforced corners and matching serial number written on the bottom, two manuals, a spare muzzle cover, 10-round magazine, a cleaning kit, and a screwdriver.
Our Assessment: From its introduction in 1957 to this very day, the Smith & Wesson Model 41 has been considered one of the finest target pistols made commercially. This example shows some light wear and has a great bore and a nice trigger. The action is smooth and these guns typically function flawlessly…these are just great guns. This early example should attract the Smith collectors, but you’d be hard pressed to find a better production rimfire pistol.
