The oil stained hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nosecaps, stacking loop, two sling loops and a metal buttplate with hinged metal door for storage in the buttstock. The buttplate shows light scapes and small scratches. The wood shows numerous scrapes, scratches and compression marks. Several have damaged or removed small portions of surface wood. Most of these marks have been oiled over. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.
Type of Finish: Parkerized
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The lands are bright, the grooves are semi bright and the rifling is deep. There is fouling and some frosting in the grooves near the muzzle. The fouling should clean up some. The bore has an M.E. of 0.5. The throat has a T.E. of 2.
Overall Condition: The rifle retains about 95% of its finish. The metal shows scuffs, scrapes, small scratches and light thinning on the leading edges of the metal. The right side of the receiver & bolt show light thinning consistent with cycling. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: This Harrington & Richardson Arms M1 Garand was made back in 1954. It still uses Harrington & Richardson parts so it has lots of little “HRA” markings on the metal. Even the gas cylinder lock screw is marked “HRA”. This is a collectible rifle that is ideal for a Garand or WWII collection.
