Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER MODEL 9422M XTR .22 WIN. MAGNUM / MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. — WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”. The top of the barrel and top of the receiver are marked with the “WP” proof. The bottom of the frame and lever assembly are marked “F349402”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade and is dovetailed to a hooded, serrated, and ramped base. The rear sight is a “U” notch leaf and elevator style sight, the elevator is present. The top of the receiver is grooved to accept claw-style mounts (none included).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with a straight grip, straight comb, checkered black plastic Winchester buttplate, and barrel band on the forend. There are some light handling marks, mostly on the belly with some storage rubs to the sids of the forearm and stock. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 ¾” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate shows some light marks on the heel with strong checkering. The stocks rate in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The top of the receiver has a few marks from a previously mounted scope. The edges of the frame show some marking and finish loss from reassembly. There is one surface rub on the left flat of the frame, likely a storage mark. The markings are clear. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The magazine tube The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Winchester 9422M, based, of course on the company’s tried and true Model 94 Lever Action carbine. The standard 9422 was chambered for the .22 LR and shorter rimfire cartridges, but the 9422M is chambered for the more powerful .22 Magnum. This cartridge has more power, being suitable for larger varmints like coyote and can shoot further than the smaller rimfire cartridges. The action has to be felt to understand, with a flick of the wrist, you’ve already got another round chambered.

This example is sharp, the stocks have only light wear, the bore is strong with sharp rifling and no erosion.

This would be a great rifle for taking care of all kinds of varmint as well as being a nice piece to add to a Winchester collection.
