Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “44 Magnum”. The left side of the frame has a S&W Performance Center logo. The right of the barrel is marked “Performance / Center”. The right of the frame has the four-line Marcas Registradas address. The crane cut is marked with the serial and model numbers, the butt is marked with the serial number. The crane and sides of the grip frame have inspection marks.
Barrel Length: 2 5/8″
Sights / Optics: The front sight is an orange ramped blade with dovetailed into a ramped riser integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a white-outlined square notch adjustable for windage and elevation in a base screwed to the topstrap. The topstrap is drilled and tapped for mounting optics (none included).
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered wood grips with finger grooves that enclose the frontstrap but leave the butt and backstrap exposed. There are a couple of light marks from use and storage. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The grips have a gap to one another along the front. The top of the right panel has a gap to the frame. Overall, the grips appear in Excellent condition but rate Fine due to fitment.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are a couple of light marks on the top strap to the left of the front sight, hardly noticeable. There are a couple of light marks scattered over the metal. There are a couple of little scuffs and draglines. There are a couple of spots of hardly noticeable mottled discoloration on the cylinder, likely just from oil during storage. The cylinder has a turn-line. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in about Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double action trigger is smooth, the single action is crisp. The cylinder locks up with almost no play on each chamber when the trigger is depressed. We have not fired this gun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The 629 has been made in a variety of configurations since 1979 filling just about any role that could be asked of a .44 Magnum revolver. This example is a 629-6 made by the Performance Center, it has a matte stainless finish, unfluted cylinder, and a compact 2 5/8″ barrel. The gun is in Fine Plus condition with a few scattered light marks, a great bore, and strong mechanics.
