Markings: The top of the frame behind the hammer is marked with the serial number “368949”. The sides of the frame are marked with scroll engraving and a circle with a cougar on a boulder. The left shoulder of all of the barrels are marked “THOMPSON CENTER ARMS / ROCHESTER, N H.” and with their respective calibers. Each of the barrels have factory and proof markings on either side of their lugs.

Barrel Length: All are 10”. All are octagonal except for the 44 Magnum barrel which is round and the 45 Colt/.410 Puch which is half round and half octagonal.

Sights / Optics: The installed barrel front sight is a blade that is integral to a serrated ramped base that is fixed to the barrel. Attached at the rear via a Weaver style rail and two Weaver rings is a Bushnell High Contrast scope with 2-6x magnification and a duplex reticle. The rings and scope have scattered light nicks and handling marks and the lenses have a few visible specs. The scope rates in about Good-Very Good condition.

The 222 Remington barrel front sight is a blade that is integral to a serrated ramped base that is fixed to the barrel. Equipped at the rear via a Weaver style rail and two rings is a Weaver scope with 2.5-8x magnification and a duplex reticle. The scope shows minimal wear and has clean and clear lenses. The Weaver scope rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.

The 44 Mag barrel front sight is a blade that is pinned to a step serrated ramped base that is screwed to the barrel. Attached at the rear via a Weaver style rail and two Weaver rings is a Leupold M8 scope with a fixed 4x magnification and a duplex reticle. The scope has some infrequent scattered light nicks and the lenses are a touch cloudy but mostly clear. The scope rates in about Very Good condition.

The 22 WMR barrel front sight is a blade that is integral to a serrated ramped base that is fixed to the barrel. Equipped at the rear of the barrel is a Weaver style rail for mounting an optic.

The 45 Colt/.410 Hot Shot barrel front sight is a blade that is integral to a serrated ramped base that is fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a fully adjustable square notch with a serrated rear face that is fixed to the barrel.

 Stock Configuration & Condition: The installed grips are dark wood with a checkered forearm. The capped pistol grip has a right thumb rest and finger grooves. There is a chip in the left rear of the forearm. The forearm has some other scattered nicks and scrapes. There is slight play between the forearm and metal even when the screw is tightened. There are a few light nicks in the pistol grip. The installed grips rate in about Fair-Good overall condition.

Included are two additional checkered black rubber Pachmayr pistol grips with slight ambidextrous palm swells, finger grooves, and a Pachmayr lion medallion on either side. There is also a checkered black rubber schnabel-tipped Pachmayr forearm, an additional checkered wood forearm, and a black synthetic schnabel-tipped forearm. The pistol grips show light handling marks with sharp checkering and no rips or tears, in about Fine condition. The Pachmayr forearm shows minor rubs and marks on the smooth borders with no rips or tears and sharp checkering, it rates in about Very Good overall condition. The additional wood forearm shows a few light draglines with no chips or cracks and sharp checkering. It rates in about Fine condition. The synthetic forearm shows light handling wear with no chips or cracks, also in about Fine condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: The 45 Colt/.410 Hot Shot barrel is refinished. All other barrels and the receiver are original.

Bore Condition: All bores are bright. The 45 Colt/.410 bore has some light stubborn fouling.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 90% of its metal finish. There is thinning with light and light scratches on the trigger guard/lever. The sides of the hammer have taken a slight plum hue. There is standard operational wear. The barrels show some light operational thinning. The screw heads have strong slots, the pins are unmarred. The markings are strong aside from those on the refinished barrel which are thin but legible. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger has an adjustable CF-RF switch at the top which also acts as a safety when switched to the middle position. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included with this gun are all the previously described accessories along a hard black synthetic case. The case has strong latches on the sides and the front. There are scattered nicks, scuffs, and scratches and some minor dirt and build in the corners which a good cleaning should remove easily. There are no chips or cracks. The case rates in about Very Good-Fine overall condition.

Our Assessment: Talk about the complete package! This Contender comes with an assortment of options in optics, barrels, and grips with a sturdy hard case to protect it all. An especially neat accessory is the Hot Show barrel which shreds the protective shot capsule when shooting .410 and is effective at as far as 20 yards. Don’t pass on this sweet package deal.
