Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are some swirl marks and light streaks from use and storage. There is a faint turn line on the cylinder, which is cleverly masked by the engraver putting a design between the cylinder stop notches. There is also a gold ring at the rear of the cylinder. There are few light scuffs. There is light operational wear on the trigger and hammer and trigger. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lockup produces minimal side to side movement. The double action is smooth and the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is an aftermarket, faux black leather display case, with 2 brass latch assemblies (the left one does not have the latch attached). The interior is lined with purple fabric, french-fit for the revolver and the included wood cartridge block. The case has some scattered nicks, scuffs, light scratches and general storage wear. The case rates in about Good condition and would rate better but for the missing latch.
Our Assessment: The model 66 is, essentially, a stainless steel version of the model 19. This example, with its 4? barrel and adjustable sights gives the Model 19’s balance of size, precision and power and also makes it more corrosion resistant and appealing to those who prefer the look of stainless steel. Add to that, the beautiful foliate scroll engraving, and you will be holding a revolver that is as beautiful as it is functional. This would make a great addition to a Smith & Wesson collection or a classy “BBQ gun” for the lucky winner. Please see our photos and good luck!
