Action Type: 6-Shot, Double / Single Action, Swing-Out Fluted Cylinder Hand Ejector Revolver.

Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”, the right side is marked “44 MAGNUM”.   The Yoke cut is marked “N871456 / MOD 629” (double stamped) and the Yoke has inspection marks. There are inspection marks on both left and right of the grip frame.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a ramp blade with an orange insert, integral to a serrated elevated base that is integral to the rib, which is serrated for glare reduction. The rear sight is an S&W micrometer click, flat  top, square notched leaf that is adjustable for windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered black rubber Pachmayr Presentation grips. There is some scattered light wear, most notable on the front edge of the right panel The checkering is well defined. There are no rips or tears. Overall, the grips are in about Fine condition as not original to the gun.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are few scattered light scuffs and handling marks. There are a few little scratches on the trigger guard. The cylinder has a thin, light turn-line. The hammer and trigger have light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp to lightly worn. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup produces no side-to-side play on each chamber with the trigger depressed. The double-action trigger is smooth. The single-action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A black leather holster is included. It shows some wear from use, most notable at the location of a front sight on a 6” revolver. The stitching is intact  Overall, the holster rates in Very Good condition.

Our Assessment: The S&W Model 629 is The .44 magnum Stainless. The 629 has been made in a variety of configurations since 1979 filling just about any role that could be asked of a .44 Magnum revolver. The .44 Magnum is a stout round and will be good protection against just about anything you’ll encounter in North America. The gun is in Fine condition with a few scattered light marks, a great bore, strong mechanics and comes with a leather holster.
