Follower: “11” – Used by Springfield and Winchester (page 83).
Receiver Leg: “A43, and “D 28291 43” – Appears correct for the Springfield serial number (page 29). The last 3 drawing numbers in our reference material are for post WWII M1 Garands. They list only single serial numbers. The other drawing numbers list broad serial number ranges.
Op Rod: “D 6535382 IHC” – An International Harvester part (page 71).
Barrel: “MARLIN  D6535448 5-53 84804”, “P”, “M”, and with a “flaming bomb” – Correct for the Springfield serial number. According to page 483 of Bruce Canfield’s book, The M1 Garand Rifle, “It is believed that the use of Marlin made barrels and new-production Springfield Armory M1 rifles was restricted to rifles in the low 4.2 to 4.3 million serial number range”.
Bolt: “D28287-12SA / S-II diamond” – A Springfield part (page 53).
The stock and sights are described below.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice and “DRC”. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two and “NI-C” on the edge.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The face of the grip is marked with a faded “circled P” proof. The base of the grip is marked “E”.
The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, a stacking loop, two sling loops, and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. A grease pot and chamber brush are stored in the butt. The refinihsed buttplate has scratches and surface erosion showing through finish. The left side of the grip shows a horizontal compression marks. The wood shows other scrapes, scratches, and compression marks. Many have damaged small portions of the surface wood. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original to Rebuild

Bore Condition: The bore is semi bright. The grooves near the muzzle are light grey. The rifling is deep. There is some fouling in the grooves which should clean up. There is frosting in the grooves near the muzzle. The bore shows an M.E. of 1.2. The throat shows a T.E. of 3.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 92% of its metal finish. The finish shows light scrapes as well as thinning on the leading edges of the metal. The bottom metal shows thin scratches and discoloration. The underside of the receiver shows thinning and a freckling of discoloration from oxidation. The receiver legs show areas of thinning. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle was purchased through the Civilian Marksmanship program. It comes in its original cardboard shipping box, CMP Certificate and a CMP Invoice. The box shipped from Anniston, Alabama. The shipping box has stickers on the exterior. It shows scrapes, creasing, discoloration, and tape residue. It uses a foam insert. It is in about Very Good condition.  The certificate and invoice are marked with the rifle’s serial number. They show creasing and bends. They are in about Very Good Plus condition. The rifle also comes with a manual, promotional paperwork, a chamber flag, and a clip. These items are in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition.
The rifle has a green nylon sling attached. It shows discoloration & soiling as well as scrapes & oxidation on the metal. It is in about Very Good condition. A grease pot and chamber brush are stored in the butt. They are in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition.
