Markings: The left of the top barrel is marked “HEGE GMBH & CO SCHWAB. HALL GERMANY”, the right is marked “SPECIAL NICKEL-CHROME STEEL NITRO-PROVED”. Under the stock-line, the left of the top barrel is marked with a single star, the bottom barrel has “XXI” date code and Italian proofs. The bottom of the monoblock is marked with Italian proofs, “XXI” date code, Antonio Zoli trademark, “40459”, “Cal. 16” and “.308”. The inside of the forend iron is marked “40459”. The right shoulder of the receiver is marked “40459”, the left “Cal. 16 .308”, the water table is marked with Italian proofs and an Antonio Zoli trademark. The bottom of the receiver is marked “Original / Antonio Zoli / Hebsacker” around an engraved Pegasus. The receiver has extensive decorative engraving.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade in-line dovetailed to a ramped base that is integral to the rib. The rear sight is a folding “U” dovetailed into the rib. The rib has a grooved base for mounting optics pinned in place behind the rear sight (no optics included).
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece skip-line checkered walnut with a capped semi-pistol grip, arched comb with cheekpiece, checkered black hard rubber Hebsacker buttplate, and a sling stud in the belly (the other is mounted to the rifle barrel forward of the forend). The stocks have some scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. There are a few very minor cracks at the rear edge of the forend. There are repaired chip-losses at the rear of the top tang and at the toe. The checkering is well defined. The LOP measures 13 7/8″ and 12 7/8″ from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate has some scattered light wear, most notable at the heel and toe, with well defined checkering and lettering. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good condition as repaired and refinished.

Bore Condition: The shotgun bore is bright with no erosion. The rifled bore is semi-bright with strong rifling. There is some scattered light erosion and infrequent minor pitting in the rifled bore.
Overall Condition: This combination gun retains about 85% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. The barrels have a few scattered minor marks and light wear from the forend which is concealed when assembled. The receiver’s nickel finish has wear toward the bottom-front, but is otherwise generally strong, showing some scattered spots of residue which is likely dried grease or from the stocks’ new finish. The lever and trigger guard have a plum hue with some scattered light wear. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this combination gun is in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrels lock up to the receiver with no play. The safety does not engage automatically when the action is opened, but functions properly when set manually. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Combination guns have been a popular “do-all” gun for generations, with some still being produced today. The combination of a shotgun for fowl and a rifle for terrestrial game allows the hunter to become familiar with one gun for all their trips to the field. This example was produced by Antonio Zoli, an Italian gunmaker in Brescia. Rising from the rubble of WWII, Zoli pioneered the now huge market of black powder reproduction arms in Italy as well as breaking into the combination gun market which was previously dominated by central European nations. This example was made by Zoli for the German retailer Hebsacker. It is chambered for 16 gauge shotgun shells and .308 Winchester, making for a very versatile hunting gun with ammunition readily available here in the States.
