Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON” the right side “S.&W. 357 MAGNUM”. The sideplate is marked with the S&W logo and the right side of the frame with the four line Marcas Registradas address. The yoke cut is marked “MOD. 19-3”. The butt of the frame is marked with the serial number. The yoke and sides of the grip frame have inspection marks. The front face of the ejector is marked with the serial number.

Barrel Length: 2 1/2”, Pinned

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated, ramped blade with an orange insert and is integral to a rise in the barrel’s serrated rib. The rear sight is a square notch leaf in a base that is micro-click adjustable for windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered black rubber Pachmayr grips. The grips have some play to the grip frame and are proud at the top of the backstrap. There are a few little scuffs and handling marks. The checkering is well defined. Overall, the grips are in about Fine condition.

Type of Finish: Hard Chrome

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 95% of its current metal finish. The cylinder has a faint turn-line. There are some streaks from refinishing under the finish on the sideplate. The frame has some oxidation on the interior behind the trigger. There are a few spots of discoloration on the trigger. The hammer and trigger have been polished. There are some spots of discoloration and oxidation, most noticeable on the left of the frame. The cylinder stop bolster is slightly worn and sometimes makes closing the cylinder difficult. The screw heads range from sharp to very lightly worn with strong slots. The markings are mostly clear, the monogram logo is little light. Overall, this revolver is in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The cylinder stop bolster is slightly worn and sometimes makes closing the cylinder difficult but the action functions correctly. The double-action trigger is smooth and the single action crisp. The cylinder produces light play in lockup on each of the six chambers with the trigger depressed. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Model 19 was introduced in 1955 and built on a K frame that was slightly larger in the yoke area and was initially offered only with a 4″ barrel. In 1963 a 6″ barrel was produced and not until 1968 was this revolver offered in a more concealable 2 1/2″ barrel. This is one such example, built on a round-butt frame which conceals much better than the square-butt. Combine that with the 2 1/2″ barrel and you have a full-frame .357 with a 6-round capacity that can still be concealed somewhat easily. Even better, this example has adjustable sights allowing you to attain some accuracy with your concealable revolver. This revolver doesn’t just bridge the gap between home defense, concealed carry, and duty revolver, it can excel at all three! This example has some wear to the cylinder stop bolster but is otherwise in great shape and now has a tough hard chrome finish. Please see our photos and good luck!
