Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / MODEL 336C MICRO-GROOVE BARREL CAL. CAL 30/30 WIN.”. The left side of the barrel at the receiver is marked with a circled “JM” proof. The right side of the barrel is marked with Marlin’s two-lined warning. The upper tang is marked “97008376”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade that is fixed to a serrated riser that is slotted for a hood (none installed) and screwed into the barrel. The rear sight has been removed and there is a gap where it was once installed. Equipped to the top of the receiver via two rings is a Bushnell Banner scope with 3-9x magnification and a circle reticle. The scope shows some light marks from contact with the lense caps. Otherwise there is no significant wear. The lenses are unclouded. Overall, the scope rates in about Fine-Plus condition.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered wood with a capped pistol grip, one sling stud in the belly and one on the rear barrel band, a fluted straight comb, Marlin bullseye in the belly, and a firm brown rubber Marlin buttpad. The wood shows hardly any perceptible imperfections. There is some minor bubbling in the pistol grip cap. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The pad shows some minor rubs and very light white discoloration in the Marlin logo. The stocks rate in about Fine-Plus overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. The bore shows an ME of 2.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of finish shows a small mark or two on both the barrel and receiver. There is light operational wear. The markings are clear. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. Overall this rifle rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lever safety is present. There is also a push safety on the receiver that blocks the hammer. The lever extends slightly past ninety degrees in the open position. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The .30-30 Win. cartridge is said to have killed more deer in the United States than any other, so there is no doubt as to its utility. This is a great looking rifle in Fine-Excellent condition, with a nice bore, and is light and easy to carry, so if you are going hunting in heavy brush, and/or don’t want to carry a big, heavy rifle around with you all day; this is a very practical choice.
