Markings: The right side of the slide is marked “SPRINGFIELD ARMORY” and the with the crossed cannon logo followed by and “SPRINGFIELD / Custom”. The left side of the slide is marked “OPERATOR / CAL .45”. The barrel is marked “NM 45AUTO”. The right side of the frame is marked “SPRINGFIELD INC / GENESEO IL USA / CRG 6344” and is also marked “CAL 45” on the dust cover. The interior flat at the rear of the slide is marked “M466175” and is marked with the last four digits of the serial number, “6344”. The bottom of the chamber is inscribed with the last four digits of the serial number, “6344”. The right side of the bushing, obscured by the slide, is inscribed with the last four digits of the serial number, “6344”. The barrel link is inscribed with the last four digits of the serial number, “6344”. The frame facing side of the slide stop is inscribed with the last four digits of the serial number, “6344”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated blade with a tritium lamp dovetailed into the slide. The rear sight is Novak low mount square notch with two tritium lamps and is dovetailed into the slide and further secured with a set screw. The lamps are bright and easily acquirable in low light environments.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece textured orange and black G10 panels. The texturing is strong. There are no chips or cracks. The grip panels rate in about Excellent overall condition. Also included are the original checkered wood grips, they have light handling wear with no major defects and strong checkering, in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some fouling present.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. All we see are a few flattened checkers on the recoil spring plug along with light handling and standard operational wear. The markings are strong and clear. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this handgun rates in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger is crisp and has a short reset. The slide to frame fit is snug. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included are a serial matching grey hard case, paperwork including the manual and certificate of authenticity, original checkered wood grips in Excellent condition, and a total of six 7-round magazines. The magazines display light wear from use and storage and rate in about Excellent condition.
Our Assessment: This is a Springfield Armory 1911 Professional pistol in .45 that boasts a host of additional features over its original 100 year old design. The Professional was originally developed for an FBI RFP which designated a pistol which would feed any commercial hollow-point, flat nose or semi-wadcutter ammunition, 50,000 round warranty, fire three consecutive 10-shot groups of 1.5″ or less at 25 yards from a Ransom rest, 20,000 round test period followed by another accuracy test with less than 15% reduction in accuracy, and a MRBF no greater than 2,500. After testing, the Springfield submission was the only candidate to meet these stringent requirements. As good, capitalist Americans, Springfield not only produced these pistols for the FBI contract, they offered them on the civilian market as well. In addition to “standard” custom features such as extended beavertail grip safety, ambidextrous thumb safety, skeletonized hammer and trigger, hand checkered 20 LPI frontstrap and mainspring housing, the pistol also had more subtle features such as a slightly recessed slide-stop pin which would not be accidentally knocked out of place, slightly extended magazine release button, beveled magazine well and, perhaps most importantly, individually hand fit National Match barrel, bushing, slide and slide-stop. Needless to say, this was a pistol produced in the Springfield Custom shop and all of the commercial produced Professionals were held to the same strict standards as the FBI contract pistols. This pistol is the railed version and looks like it was hardly ever used. If you’re looking for a performance 1911, specifically designed for life-or-death reliability, you can’t do much better than this. Please see our photos and good luck!
