Markings: The import mark on the barrel reads “BLUE SKY/ARLINGTON, VA.”. The top of the receiver is marked “U.S. CARBINE / CAL. 30 M1” on the front and “INLAND DIV. / 142215” on the rear. The top of the barrel is marked “UNDERWOOD / flaming bomb / 3 – 44” and “P”. The right rear of the trigger group is marked “INLAND” which is an Inland mark (page 78  of Craig Riesch’s book, U.S. M1 Carbines Wartime Production 7th Edition). The hammer is marked “I-I” which is an Inland mark (page 89). The magazine release is marked “M” and “SI” which is an Inland mark (pages 100-101). The smooth push button safety is unmarked which is consistent with Inland and others (page 93). The operating slide is unmarked. The marking may have been lost to refinishing (page 65). The bolt is marked “AI” on the left lug which is an Inland mark (page 36). The front sight is marked “N” which is consistent with Inland and others (page 56). The Type III rear sight is marked “I.R.CO.” which was used by Inland and Winchester (page 29). The Type III barrel band is marked “MMQ” on the band and “EM-Q” on the lug. These are Quality Hardware marks (page 59). The stock is unmarked. The marks may have been lost to refurbishing.

Barrel Length: Approximately 18 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a post set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable Type III aperture assembly. There is paint on the back of the rear sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock had a pistol grip, Type III barrel band with sling loop & bayonet lug, sling well, sling pass through, and a metal buttplate. The buttplate has been polished clean. It shows scratches, small dents and surface erosion. The wood shows scrapes, scratches and compression marks. Most of these marks have been finished over. Some of the marks have damaged small portions of the surface wood. The LOP measures 13 ¼ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition as refurbished.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original to Rebuild

Bore Condition: The bore is semi bright. The rifling is crisp. There is some frosting and fouling in the grooves near the muzzle. The fouling should clean up some. The bore shows an M.E. of 0.8.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 88% of its metal finish. The top of the barrel shows thinning light discoloration under the wood. The right side of the receiver & bolt show thinning consistent with cycling. The metal shows scrapes, small scratches and thinning on the leading edges of the metal. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: There is No magazine. The rifle comes with a green canvas sling that is in about Fine condition.
