Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “DETECTIVE SPEC. / .38 SPECIAL CTG.”. The left sideplate is marked with the “Rampant Colt” logo. The crane flat is marked “942307” and “IB”. The crane is marked “942307”. The right side of the barrel is marked “COLT’S MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.”. The left front of the trigger guard is marked with a “VP” in a triangle and the rear with “Z”. The right side of the hammer shroud is marked with a Rampant Colt. The interior of both grip panels are marked “307” in white.

Sights / Optics: The revolver is mounted with a square groove in the top strap for a rear sight. The edges of the groove in the top strap are serrated to reduce glare. The front sight is a serrated ramped blade fixed to the top of the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered walnut on a square butt grip frame with silver Rampant Colt medallions at the tops of the grips. There are a few compressions and draglines on the butts. The checkering has some rub wear and a couple nicked. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.
Type of Finish: The revolver is blued. The alloy hammer shroud has a black painted finish.
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There are a few spots of faint surface erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 96% of its metal finish. There are some small spots of light surface oxidation, most notable on the left of the frame. The edges have thinned, most noticeable on the cylinder and at the muzzle. The cylinder has a few scuffs that have thinned the finish, most noticeable behind the flutes. There are one or two small spots of oxidation on the cylinder. The front strap and trigger guard have some scuffs that have thinned the finish and the cylinder has some discoloration from previous oxidation. The cylinder has a hardly noticeable drag line. The screw heads are sharp to lightly worn with strong slots. The markings are crisp. Overall, this revolver rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The cylinder lockup on this revolver is SOLID on all six chambers. The double action is smooth and light and the single action trigger is crisp. The action functions correctly. We did not fire this revolver. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is the installed Colt hammer shroud.
