Markings: The top of the receiver is marked “U.S. / ROCK ISLAND / ARSENAL / MODEL 1903. / 392128”. The top of the Remington replacement barrel is marked “RA / flaming bomb / 7 – 43”. The bottom of the barrel is marked “P”. The front sight hood is marked “R” on the right and “flaming bomb / U.S.” on the left. The magazine cutoff is marked “ON OFF” and the safety is marked “SAFE READY”. The barrel band is marked “U”. The top of the bolt handle is marked “N L / 3” and the bottom is marked “k” & with a punch. The left side of the stock, above the trigger, is marked with a faded Ordnance Department “crossed cannons” cartouche and ”FJA in a box” (inspector Frank J. Atwood, Remington Arms/Smith Corona 1942-1944, page 399 of The M1903 Springfield Rifle and its Variations, 3rd Edition). The left side of the stock, above the magazine, is marked “C.S.A.A. in a rectangle” which is a post WWII Arsenal Rebuild stamp from the San Antonio Arsenal (page 390). The bottom of the grip is marked “K” and with a “circled P” proof. The wood ahead of the magazine is marked with 4 inspection stamps that consist of “numbers inside of shapes”.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set atop a barrel mounted base. It is set under a removable protective hood. The rear sight is a “U” notched blade attached to a fully adjustable sight ladder marked from “3-27”. When flipped up separate notches and an aperture on the ladder can be used for sighting.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a straight grip, metal nosecap, stacking loop, barrel band, 2 sling loops, 2 reinforcing pins, and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage. The buttplate shows scrapes, scratches, and thinning. The nosecap shows scrapes & scratches.  The wood shows scrapes, scratches, and compression marks. Some have damaged or removed small portions of the surface wood. These marks have been oiled over. The LOP measures 12 ? inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original to Arsenal Rebuild

Bore Condition: The bore is bright; semi bright near the muzzle. The rifling is deep. There is some fouling near the muzzle that should clean up some. There is no erosion. The bore shows an M.E. of 0.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its current metal finish. Oxidation and pin prick surface erosion show through the new finish on the receiver. The metal shows scuffs, scrapes & small scratches. The screw heads show use. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
