Model: 1938 Short Rifle (M38). This rifle was originally made in Model 1938 configuration. It is not a converted Model 1896/38.

Markings: The import mark on the barrel reads “M38 SWEDEN 6.5X55 / C.A.I. ST. ALB. VT.”. The top of the receiver is marked “HUSQVARNA VAPENFABRIKS / AKTIEBOLAG / 1941”. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number. The bolt assembly is marked with the last 3 digits of the serial number in 4 places; 2 markings are in electric pencil. The rear of the buttplate is marked with the last 3 digits of the serial number. Most of the metal parts are marked with a small “crown”. The right side of the buttstock has a markings disk and a trajectory decal. The decal is upside down so that it can be read easily by a right handed shooter. The small wedge on the marking disk is marked above the “2”. The medium wedge is unmarked. The large wedge is marked above “6,51”. The bottom of the grip is marked with a small “crown”. The top of the butt is painted with a small circle.
The top of the bayonet crosspiece and the base of the blade are marked “EJ anchor AB”  (Eskilstuna Jern Manufacturing, Inc.) and with a “crown / E”. The opposite side of the blade base is marked “crown / 881”. The top of the scabbard is marked “E.A.B.”. The tip of the scabbard is marked with a crown.

Barrel Length: Approximately 23 ¾ Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a tall bladed post. It is set under a removable hood. The rear sight is a “U” notched blade attached to a sliding sight escalator marked from “1 – 6”.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece hardwood stock has a straight grip, finger grooves, hole for the included cleaning rod, metal nose cap, barrel band, two sling loops, marking disk, and a metal buttplate. The buttplate shows scratches and light surface erosion. The barrel band shows scratches & tool marks. The wood shows scrapes, scratches & compression marks. Some of the marks have damaged small portions of the surface wood. The LOP measures 14 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition.

Bore Condition: The grooves are light grey. The rifling is deep. There is erosion in the grooves.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. The metal shows small scrapes & handling marks. The barrel & bottom metal show several scrapes & scratches. The bottom metal shows thinning from aggressive cleaning. The screw heads show use. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a Model 1896 bayonet and Model 1896 scabbard. The bayonet is scraped from scabbard insertion and removal. The metal grip shows scrapes, scratches, light oxidation and thinning. The bayonet is in about Very Good Plus condition. The scabbard shows scratches, thinning & oxidation as well as small dents near the tip. Overall the scabbard is in about Good condition. The rifle has a sling attached. It shows scrapes, surface cracking, and heavy discoloration. Overall it is in about Good condition.
