Markings: The import mark on the barrel reads “BLUE SKY/ARLINGTON, VA.”. It is stamped over the barrel markings. The top of the receiver is marked “U.S. CARBINE / CAL. 30 M1” on the front and “INLAND DIV. / 129371” on the rear. The top of the barrel is marked “INLAND MFG. DIV. / GENERAL MOTORS / 12 – 42” and “P”. The right side of the barrel shank is marked with a “flaming bomb”. The right rear of the trigger group is marked “SG” which is an Saginaw Gear mark (page 78 of Craig Riesch’s book, U.S. M1 Carbines Wartime Production 7th Edition). The Saginaw Gear hammer is unmarked (page 89). The Type IV magazine release is marked with a faded “M” (pages 100-101). The rotary safety is marked “M inside a C” which is a post WWII rebuild mark (pages 93 & 184). The operating slide is marked “PI” which is an Inland mark (page 65). The bolt is marked “AOB” on the right lug which is an IBM mark (page 36) and “X” on the top which is a production mark. The front sight is marked “N” which is consistent with Inland and others (page 56). The Type III rear sight is marked “I.R.CO. / 7160060” which is a post WWII rebuild mark (page 29). The Type III barrel band is marked “D in a diamond” which is a post WWII rebuild mark (page 59). The left side of the stock, above the trigger, is marked “AAU” which is an Arsenal Rebuild stamp from the Augusta Arsenal (page 183). The rear of the magazine is marked “MN” which is a National Postal Meter mark (page 142-143).

Barrel Length: Approximately 18 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a post set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable Type III aperture assembly.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock has a pistol grip, Type III barrel band with sling loop & bayonet lug, sling well, sling pass through, and a metal buttplate. The edge of the buttplate shows several small scrapes & scratches. The nose of the handguard is missing some edge wood (under the nosecap). The wood shows numerous scrapes, scratch & compression marks. Several have damaged small portions of the surface of the wood. Most of these marks have been oiled over. The LOP measures 13 ¼ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized / Blue

Finish Originality: Portions of the metal have been refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi bright. The muzzle and the grooves near the muzzle are grey. The rifling is crisp. There is fouling & erosion at the muzzle and in the grooves near the muzzle. The fouling should clean up some. The bore shows an M.E. of 2.3.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 87% of its metal finish as refinished. The barrel and areas of the receiver (both under the wood) have been refinished in blue. The metal shows areas of thinning under the wood. The metal shows scrapes, small scratches, discoloration, and thinning on the leading edges of the metal. The right side of the receiver & bolt show thinning consistent with cycling. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with an M1 Carbine “FIELD SERVICE” manual. The cover shows scuffs & creasing. It is in about Fine condition. The rifle has a green nylon sling attached. The nylon shows discoloration and areas of soiling. The metal shows scrapes and surface erosion. It is in about Very Good condition. The rifle comes with a 15 round magazine. It shows scrapes & thin scratches as well as some surface erosion along the back. It is in about Very Good condition.
The magazine is not available to residents of California or any state with magazine capacity restrictions.
