Markings: There is no visible import mark. The top of the receiver is marked “U.S. CARBINE / CAL. .30 M1” on the front and “UNDERWOOD / 2634810 / B” on the rear. The “B” is an Underwood production mark (page 25 of Craig Riesch’s book, U.S. M1 Carbines Wartime Production 7th Edition). The top of the barrel is marked “UNDERWOOD / 10 – 43 / flaming bomb” and “P”. The top left edge of the receiver is marked “BAVARIA PRISON GUARD”. The bottom of the trigger guard is marked “LGK OO / 0712 which is an Austrian Police marking. It is also marked with a small “flaming bomb”. The top of the bolt, the op rod, the interior of the hand guard, and the sling well are each marked with the last 4 digits of the serial number. These markings were added by the Austrian Police. The rear of the trigger group’s magazine well is marked “.U.” which is an Underwood mark (page 78). The hammer is marked “.U.” which is an Underwood mark (page 89). The rotating safety is marked “circled S” which is a post WWII rebuild mark (page 95 & 185). The magazine release is marked “W” which is a Winchester mark (page 100). The inside of the operating slide is marked “F in a heart” and “.U.” which is an Underwood mark (page 65). The bolt is marked “SU” under the left lug which is an Underwood mark (page 36). The front sight is marked “.U.” which is an Underwood mark (page 56). The Type II rear sight is marked “H in a shield” which was used by other manufacturers (page 29). The Type I barrel band is unmarked which is consistent with Underwood & others (page 58- 59). The interior of the handguard is marked “SJ” which is Standard products mark (page 138). The sling well is marked “OI” which is an Inland mark (pages 108- 109). The right side of the buttstock is marked with a partial Ordnance Department “crossed cannons” cartouche. The rear of the magazine is marked “IA” which is an Inland mark (page 142).
Barrel Length: Approximately 18 Inches
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a post set between two protective wings. The Type II rear sight is an adjustable aperture assembly.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, Type I barrel band with sling loop, sling well, sling pass through, and a metal buttplate. The refinished buttplate has surface erosion showing through the finish. It also shows scrapes. The wood shows several scrapes, scratches, and compression marks. The most prominent marks are on the bottom of the forearm. Many of the marks have damaged or removed portions of the surface wood. These marks have been finished over. The LOP measures 13 ¼ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition.

Finish Originality: Original to the Austrian Police Rebuild
Bore Condition: The lands are bright, the grooves are semi bright and the rifling is sharp. The area near the muzzle is semi bright to light grey. There fouling and frosting near the muzzle. The fouling should clean up a bit. The bore shows an M.E. of 1.9.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The metal shows light scrapes & small scratches. The right side of the receiver & bolt show thinning consistent with cycling. Most of the markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes in a green hard plastic case that is marked on both sides with “stars & stripes”, “CMP / www.theCMP.org”, the CMP seal “stars / eagle holding arrows”, and with other information. The interior of the case has foam pieces that are intact but show compression from use. The case has 4 latches and 3 reinforced locking holes. The case shows scrapes, scratches and a few areas of light discoloration. It is in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition. The rifle comes with a “Certificate of Authenticity” from the “CIVILIAN MARKSMANSHIP PROGRAM”. It lists the rifle’s serial number. It is in about Excellent condition. The rifle comes with an M1 Carbine field manual. It is in about Excellent condition. The rifle comes with an unmarked web sling. It shows light discoloration. It is in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition.
The rifle comes with a 15 round magazine. It shows scrapes, scratches, and areas of thinning. It is in about Very Good condition.
