Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “PATENTED APR.20,1897 / SEPT.9,1902. DEC.19,1905.FEB.14,1911 / COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO.”, “SPRINGFIELD ARMORY / U.S.A.” and with a Flaming Bomb proof at the rear. The left of the frame is marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” and at the magazine release with a Flaming Bomb proof. The right side of the frame is marked “No 119972”. The right side of the slide is marked with an American Eagle Springfield logo and “MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY.”. The left of the barrel at the chamber is marked “PX-9”, the left link-lug is marked “S” and “P” (WWII Springfield field replacement barrel). The following parts have a small “S” marked on them: Hammer, Grip Safety, Magazine Catch, Barrel Bushing. Other small parts which would typically have an “S” marking if made by Springfield are not marked.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a rounded blade integral to the slide. The rear sight is a flat-top “U”-notch dovetailed to the rear of the barrel. Each corner has a 0.06″ radius, typical of Springfield produced rear sights.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered walnut “Double Diamond” grips. The grips show light handling wear, more on the right panel than the left. There are some tool-slips and light marks in the smooth diamonds. The checkering is generally well defined. The cut for the mainspring housing pin is fit quite close, but there are approximately 15 checkers between the points of the diamonds, indication Colt production. Overall, the grips are in about Very Good condition as not original to the gun.

Finish Originality: Refinished
Bore Condition: The bore is light gray with sharp rifling. There is light erosion scattered in the bore.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 70% of its current metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. The most notable finish loss is in the grip areas and on the left of the dust cover where the area around the US Property marking has been polished bright. There are several scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. There is some scattered light surface erosion, some under and some through the finish. Most erosion under the finish is on the slide, most through the finish is on the frame. The action has operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are generally clear, the eagle on the right of the slide is shallow and incomplete. Overall, this pistol is in about Very Good condition as refinished and not parts-original.
Mechanics: The trigger pull is crisp and the slide has little play to the frame. The action functions correctly. We have not fired this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with one blued magazine with the top third left “In The White”. The floorplate is pinned in place with the body stopping above the plate and a lanyard ring on the plate. The magazine has operational wear, some discoloration from oxidation, intact feed lips and a strong spring, in about Good-plus condition.
Our Assessment: The 1911 and 1911-A1 pistols served the military of the United States from 1911 to 1985, through two World Wars and the Korean and Vietnam wars. They gained a reputation as a reliable handgun with plenty of stopping power, and are held in high regard by those who have used them. This is a Springfield Armory Model 1911 pistol made in 1915, after the start of WWI, but before the US had joined in. Some of the small parts have been replaced and the barrel is a WWII field replacement, which may mean that this pistol stayed in inventory for a few decades. The pistol is in about Very Good condition with about 70% of its new finish remaining. The Springfield made 1911s are always collectible, and this would be a great addition to a collection which has almost certainly been there, and done that. Please see our photos and good luck!
