Markings: On the left side of the barrel this pistol is marked “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY / MORGAN UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q.”. The right side of the barrel is marked “.22 L.R. BROWNING PATENTS / MADE IN BELGIUM”. The front strap is marked with the serial number. The underside of the barrel is marked with a Belgian proof and a small boxed mark we cannot decipher. The left side of the slide has a proof mark at the rear. The bottom of each magazine is marked “.22 L.R. BROWNING”.

Barrel Length: 6 3/4?, Heavy Barrel with Vent-Rib

Sights / Optics: The front sight is an undercut serrated Patridge blade pinned to the ventilated rib. The rear sight is a square notch, adjustable for windage and elevation mounted to the rib.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece walnut, a checkered target grip with a thumb shelf for left-handed shooters, and matching Schnabel-style tip forend. There is a shell deflector pin set in the top of the right side. The top of the thumb shelf has some patches of finish loss at the very front. There is a bit of finish loss on the backstrap a the bottom edge. The stocks have some scattered draglines and a few very infrequent small compressions. The forend has some little scuffs and marks into the finish, most noticeable at the front. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks.  The grip rates in about Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 95% of its metal finish. The barrel has some little scuffs and small marks into the finish, most noticeable on the bottom. The back of the frame has some thinning on the edges. The barrel has some little spots of finish loss below the stock line, not visible when installed. The front strap and trigger guard have a few little rubs and tiny marks into the finish. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads are lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The pistol comes in a black faux-leather coated hard-sided case with brass locking latch on the front, red felt interior with fitted depressions for the pistol, barrel weight set, and cartridge tray, all of which are included along with a total of two 10-round magazines, a manual, and a key to the lock. There is a plaque in the case at the top-right reading “Automatics by / BROWNING / St. Louis, Mo.”. The exterior of the case has scattered storage wear, mostly at corners and the brass nameplate on the lid shows wear and discoloration, the interior has compression wear from the contents. Overall, the case is in about Very Good-Fine condition. The barrel weights have some scattered light marks, in about Very Good-Fine condition. The magazines have operational wear with intact feed lips and strong springs, in about Very Good condition. The magazines are two different styles, one sticks out of the magazine well about ½” but locks the slide back properly.

Our Assessment: The Browning Medalist model is a fine example of a true Bullseye match .22 target pistol. It can be fit with a variety of barrel weights or the installed forend and has a track record of quality. This example is in about Fine condition with evidence of responsible use and maintenance. This pistol is quite attractive and should present well in its medalist case for a Browning collector. If not being presented, this pistol will make an outstanding target gun…especially for the left handed shooters. Please see our photos and good luck!
