Markings: The top of the receiver is marked “U.S. / REMINGTON / MODEL 03-A3 / 3436515”. The top of the barrel is marked “R A / flaming bomb / 2- 43”. The bottom of the barrel is marked “P”. The safety is marked “SAFE READY” and the magazine cutoff is marked “ON OFF”. The stacking loop, the front sling loop, back of the safety, magazine cutoff, right side of the front sight base underside of the bolt handle, are all marked “R” for Remington. The nose of the stock is marked with a faded mark that is difficult to decipher. The front sight is marked “A” on the right. The bottom of the barrel has two little marks and “P”. There is a circle “P” cartouche above “K” on the bottom of the wrist. The left of the wrist is stamped with a Frank J. Atwood cartouche, “FJA”, a crossed cannon cartouche, and “RA-P” for Raritan Arsenal. The bottom of the forend is marked with two boxes, a square, and a triangle in front of the bottom metal. One of the boxes appears to read “16” and box appears to read “R.5”, these marks are faded and difficult to decipher.
Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a pinned blade set in a raised base. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight marked from “2-8” on the top and “0” with hash marks on the rear.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a straight grip, metal nose cap, stacking loop, 2 barrel bands, 2 sling loops, 2 reinforcing pins, and a metal buttplate with a hinged door for storage. Small crack on the handguard at the receiver, it is about ¼”. There are some draglines, compressions, scratches, and some scrapes that have removed surface wood. The most noticeable scratches and scrapes are on the right side of the forend between the rear barrel band and receiver. Some of the most notable compressions are on the top of the handguard and on the left side of the butt. These marks have mainly darkened with age. The LOP measures 12 ¾ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has some light finish loss on the edges and a few light impact marks. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition.

Finish Originality: Original to Arsenal Refurbishment
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the riflign is sharp. There is no erosion with the exception of at the muzzle that shows an M.E. of about 1.0.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. The receiver shows a few little marks under the finish and a bit of faint mottled discoloration. The bottom metal assembly has some light mottled discoloration and some light nicks mainly on the trigger guard. The bottom metal has a few tiny spots of faint frost. The bolt handle has some light operational thinning. The trigger has a bit of frost. The rear of the bolt assembly has mottled discoloration with some little patches of finish loss mixed in. The barrel and the nosecap have a few little marks, mainly under the finish. The screw heads ragne from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The important markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition as arsenal refurbished.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a Boyt two-point leather sling. It has white discoloration, creases, and verdigris patina on the brass fittings. The sling has company logos and is also marked “SL-6-K”. The sling rates in about Very Good condition.
Our Assessment: This Remington Model 1903-A3 was made during WWII in 1943. The wood looks nice, the metal finish is in great shape, and the bore is an absolute beauty. The markings on the receiver and barrel are nice and clear. There are also little “R” markings on several of the small metal parts. This one was sent to the Raritan Arsenal for refurbishment or repair an is marked with the “RA-P” stamp on the left of the stock. All the markings on this rifle tell a story that makes this beauty of a 1903-A3 worthy of a place in your safe.
