The left of the slide has a spot of minor erosion at the rampant colt. There are some scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. The worn areas show very minor discoloration from oxidation. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in about Very Good condition.

Our Assessment: The 1911 and 1911-A1 pistols served the military of the United States from 1911 to 1985, through two World Wars and the Korean and Vietnam wars. They gained a reputation as a reliable handgun with plenty of stopping power, and are held in high regard by those who have used them. This is a Colt Model 1911 Government Model made in 1946. After WWII ended, Colt had a large number of parts on hand which were produced for military 1911A1 pistols, and the early post-war production used many of these parts. This example has a slide produced for a military pistol, re-marked for commercial sale and given a commercial blue finish with matting on the top. The mainspring housing has the lanyard ring of a military pistol and other small parts are from military production including the front sight and safety. The pistol is in about Very Good condition with about 80% of its metal finish, a decent bore, and strong mechanics. All of the old 1911 Colts are collectable, and we are sure this early post-war military/commercial isn’t going to be an exception. Please see our pictures and good luck in your bidding!
