Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered walnut. The right panel has a patch smoothed checkers under the top mounting screw and there is some other scattered general light handling wear. The checkering is well defined apart from the patch on the right panel. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Very Good condition.
Type of Finish: Blued
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright. The rifling is sharp. There is infrequent minor scattered erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 87% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. There are several light nicks, scratches and scuffs scattered throughout. The most notable finish loss is handling wear in the frontstrap and there is a patch of much more minor finish wear on the left of the slide above the stop. There is infrequent minor surface oxidation, more noticed under very bright light than in normal lighting. The front portion of the slide is slightly darker than the rear, a result of the hardening process introduced in 1925. The pistol shows light operational wear, mostly in the trigger and grip safety. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger pull is crisp and the slide has minor play on the frame. We have not fired this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with one blued 7-round magazine. The magazine has minor operational wear, intact feed lips and a strong spring, in about Very Good-Fine condition.
Our Assessment: The 1911 and 1911-A1 pistols served the military of the United States from 1911 to 1985, through two World Wars and the Korean and Vietnam wars. They gained a reputation as a reliable handgun with plenty of stopping power, and are held in high regard by those who have used them. This is a Colt Model 1911 Government Model made in 1925. The pistol still has its original finish and is correctly marked. The pistol is in about Very Good condition with a good bore and strong mechanics. This comes from an interesting period of Commercial Government Model production with the prominent features of the 1911-A1 incorporated, including short trigger, trigger relief cuts and arched mainspring housing. It was produced just as some other changes were being made, having the new hardening process performed on the slide but with the old-style drilled and shaped recess for the disconnector on the bottom of the slide. All of the old 1911 Colts are collectable, and we are sure this isn’t going to be an exception. Please see our pictures and good luck in your bidding!
