Our Assessment: This is one sweet Blunderbuss from London from the late 1700s made by Twigg. These were used in close quarters by boarding parties and pirates, and we must say it is pretty menacing! It has a spring-loaded 11” triangular bayonet which folds backwards into a little slider which is easily slid back and the bayonet springs forward. While today this is a fun and interesting addition to a collection, back when it was designed this was one of the most feared weapons. Imagine the fear it put into the hearts of Royal sailers when their crewmates were having melon-sized holes shot in them and then being turned into kabobs with the bayonet? This is a fine example of British craftsmanship and with its distinct design and cool bayonet, it should make a welcome addition to just about any collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
