The pad shows minor wear. Drop at comb is approximately 1 1/4″, drop at heel 2 1/8″. The cast is about neutral. Overall, the stocks are in about Fine-Excellent condition.
Type of Finish: Matte Black
Finish Originality: Original to the parts. There is a bright patch on the bottom of the monoblock where we would expect a serial marking which has been polished out. It is not clear if this is a replaced barrel or if the area was polished for some other reason.
Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion in the bores.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains approximately 97% of its metal finish. The exposed metal shows only light handling marks. The sides of the barrels have some minor wear from the forend, concealed when assembled. There is a bright patch on the bottom of the monoblock where we would expect a serial marking which has been polished out. The screw heads are lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in about Fine-plus condition as possibly not parts-original.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly including ejectors. The action locks up tight with no play. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: This Beretta 686 Onyx in 12 gauge is a fine example of Beretta quality. With the immense quality of a Beretta, matte black finish, and lightweight at just over 7 pounds, this is a gun that comes alive in your hands and promises to be absolute death on both clay and flesh birds. Chambered for 12 gauge with a 26″ barrel and threaded for removable chokes, this is a versatile gun that will be suitable for most shotgun needs, especially good for closer shots on fast-moving birds. It currently has a set of Rhino Chokes, Skeet 2 over Improved Cylinder, which have porting to help control recoil. If you have an appreciation for fine double guns, this 686 Onyx is a great field gun you don’t want to pass up. Please see our photos and good luck!
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This shotgun can be transferred in California.
