The stock has light handling wear with some scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. There is a more notable ding in the left of the stock about mid-way between the grip and buttplate. The checkering is well defined, generally sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger’s installed wide, serrated shoe to the back of the buttplate. The plate has scattered minor wear with sharp checkering. Overall, the stock is in about Very Good-plus condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. Our gauge shows an ME of about 1.0.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish. Most of the balance is in light thinning at edges. The front sight hood has some scuffing on its sides. The action shows light operational wear and the bolt knob has handling wear. Otherwise, there are only a few scattered minor marks. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a safety mounted on the rear of the bolt. Pulled to the rear, the safety is ON, locking both the bolt and the trigger. If pulled back half-way, it blocks only the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A brown leather Boyt sling is installed. The sling has some scattered discoloration and wear, in about Good-Very Good condition.
Our Assessment: This is a vintage pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight rifle chambered for the classic .30-06 cartridge and made in 1957. The rifle appears to have seen some use in the field, but retains about 96% of its metal finish with a great bore and strong mechanics. It comes with a nice set of iron sights, but can accept a scope if you prefer. Ammunition for this rifle is readily available in a variety of loadings and makes for a wonderful hunting rifle that can take just about any game in North America. Whether you’re looking to add to your Winchester collection or just want a great hunting rifle, this will be a great rifle to add to any safe in America. Please see our photos and good luck!
