Our Assessment: This is a post-war vintage Winchester Model 42 .410 bore pump action shotgun from 1947. The Model 42 was the first pump shotgun specifically designed for the .410 chambering and resembles its larger cousin the Model 12. This example has had the late variant “oval post” rib installed but no markings from the Simmons Gun Specialty Company whom were contracted to do the factory install on the Model 42 starting at the end of 1957. Once the vent rib was added and the barrel has been refinished, so it looks great for its age. The gun is in Fine condition with little sign of use since the new finish was applied. The shotgun retains a great bore and strong mechanics. This beautiful shotgun still has a lot of life left in it, and would be equally suited to the hunter or the clay shooter.
