Make: Waffen Werke Brunn AG, Bystrica. In 1945 “dou” was the Nazi wartime code for Waffen Werke Brunn, Bystrica. Waffen Werke Brunn Bystrica was located in Slovakia and is the sister factory to Waffen Werke Brunn in Czechoslovakia.

Markings: The import mark on the barrel is lightly struck.It reads “SAMCO MIA FL / M98K 8MM MAU CZECH”. The top of the receiver is marked “Mod.98 / dou.45”. The left side of the receiver is marked”circled T” and with the serial number. The bolt handle is marked with the serial number. The barrel shank is marked with a Nazi “eagle / swastika”, “circled T”, “dou” and with two inspection stamps “eagle / A80”. The bottom of the butt is marked “C”. The right side of the butt is marked with a faded “crowned letter”. The Israeli K98 sling buckle is marked with “circled Hebrew letter”.
Barrel Length: Approximately 23 ¾ Inches
Sights / Optics: The front sight is an inverted “V” post set atop a ramped base and under a protective hood. The rear sight is a sliding “V” notched sight escalator marked from “1 – 20”.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece laminate stock has a pistol grip, nosecap with bayonet lug, hole for the missing cleaning rod, barrel band with sling bar, through bolt, sling well, sling pass through and metal butt plate. The buttplate shows small scratches and oxidation. The stock shows several scrapes, scratches and compression marks. Many of the marks are light. The LOP measures 13 ? inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition.

Bore Condition: The lands are bright and the grooves are semi bright. The rifling is deep. There is fouling and light intermittent erosion in the grooves near the muzzle.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish as refinished. The metal shows scrapes & scratches. Most are on the trigger guard & front of the barrel. The front of the barrel & front sight show light surface erosion. The trigger guard shows oxidation. The screw heads show use. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with a leather sling. It shows light scrapes, soiling light discoloration on the leather. The buckle shows oxidation. It is in Very Good Plus condition.
Our Assessment: This German Mauser K98 was made near the end of WWII at the Waffen Werke Bystrica factory which was located in Slovakia. Its “Mod.98” marking has been distinctively moved to the top of the receiver making it a desirable K98 for the collector. It has been refinished so it looks good and still has a strong bore.
