Markings: The portion of the barrel visible through the ejection port is markled “9 m/m KURZ” over an Eibar proof mark. The left side of the slide is marked at the rear with an Eibar proof mark. The top of the slide is marked at the front with the Astra logo and at the rear “UNCETA Y COMPAÑIA / GUERNICA ESPAÑA”. The right side of the slide is marked at the rear with the serial number, “562988”. The left side of the frame behind the left grip panel is marked with an proof house admission proof mark, a Spanish “N” date code, indicating the year of manufacture as 1942, and an Eibar proof mark. The right side of the frame behind the right grip panel is marked with a German WWII WaA 251 Heerswaffenamt inspector’s mark and the serial number, “562988”. Most markings appear to have been color-filled white.

Barrel Length: 4 13/16”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch that is integral to the rear of the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered wood panels. There is use-wear on some edges and a couple spots where the checkering is worn. The checkering is otherwise well-defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips rate in Very Good-to-Fine condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 80% of its metal finish. The slide shows scattered light nicks and there is light thinning on most edges. The checkered crown at the front of the slide has several spots where the checkering is worn down. The frontstrap and backstrap show light finish loss and have begun to go to white. The frame shows light finish loss is spots and scattered light nicks. The screw heads are sharp with usable slots and markings are mostly clear. Overall, this handgun rates in Very Good-plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol includes one (1) 6-round magazine and a black leather belt holster. The holster shows moderate wear with cracks in the top flap leather and most edges, and overall rates in Good condition. The magazine shows moderate operational wear, has a strong spring, intact feed lips and overall, rates in Very Good condition.

Our Assessment: This spanish made Astra 300 dates back to 1942 and saw service with the German Wehrmacht at the time (please note the Heerswaffenamt inspector’s mark on the right side.) This example is in overall Very Good-plus condition with much of its original finish remaining, a bright clean bore with its original magazine and a holster. This pistol is certainly an interesting piece of militaria that will be of interest to any serious collector. Good luck and happy bidding!
