Our Assessment: When FN Herstal ended the production of their famous semi-automatic FN FAL models, it didn’t take long for Springfield Armory to fill the void with the SAR-48. The original FN FAL battle rifles were introduced in the 1950s and saw action across the globe. While AK-47 rifles are sturdier and do better in the various environments with less maintenance than the FN FALs and would ultimately inspire the development of the Galil rifle, the FN FAL design is timeless. The FN FAL models became well known thanks to their role as the “Right Arm of the Free World” for most NATO countries, so the SAR-48 was able to capitalize on that popularity. Known for their accuracy and reliability, the term “match” in this rifle’s name is well deserved. If you’re looking for another FAL or wanting to get your first, this will fit perfectly suit your needs. Good Luck!
