Our Assessment: As the 1950s started, the victors’ celebrations that followed the end of World War II were fast fading in memory as the fear of communism and totalitarianism grew. Large-scale battles and clashes between whole armies were a thing of the previous decade as a new model of guerilla warfare took its place, requiring new weapons to be fielded. Fabrique National would put forward the Fusil Automatique Leger and win the hearts of many European allies, but not the United States as they adopted the M14. Today, the FAL continues to be a popular rifle for collectors across Europe and the United States, garnering an almost cult-like following for good reason. Not to be confused with the L1A1 Sporters out there, this is a Century Arms R1A1 Sporter, a modern build on the classic battle rifle parts. There is some finish wear in the form of thinning, scrapes and scuffs on the metal surfaces but this rifle still has plenty of life left in it. While accessories, parts and upgrade options for the FAL are not as vast as that of the AR or AK, this hefty unit would make any target blaster master very happy with its power and reliability. With its carry handle, adjustable gas regulator, and picatinny rails, you will have a very close replica of the classic FAL build, with the added style of wood stocks. These firearms have a reputation as functional units with reliable accuracy. So take it upon yourself to add a FAL-based gun to your collection and tame it!
