Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “U.S.”, “SSA0653” and “Remington / MODEL 700”. The left side of the barrel is marked “REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY INC. ILION, NY 305 WIN” and “WA”. The right side of the barrel is marked with an Oval “REP” proof and a Triangle “H” proof. The underside of the bolt is marked “0653”. The underside of the bolt handle is marked with a Circle “C” and “N”.

Sights / Optics: No provisions for open sights are present. Two sets of filled tapped holes are available on the top of the receiver.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The one piece smooth pistol grip stock has a fluted butt plate with a Monte Carlo comb and a right handed cheek piece. Sling swivels are mounted fore and aft. Almost no evidence of handling is apparent on the stock. The LOP measures 13 1/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the checkered alloy shotgun style butt plate which has a black painted rear surface and sports a Remington logo. The butt plate is in Excellent condition. The stock rates in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is some fouling, but no erosion in the bore. Our bore gauge measures an M.E. of .5.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. Very little evidence of use is present on the metal surfaces. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle is housed in a Remington Box with a M40 commemorative sleeve. A Remington label affixed to the end of the box reflects the serial number of the gun. The box is in Fine condition. A Certificate of Authenticity confirming that this limited edition rifle is a collaborative project among Remington, Iron Brigade Armory and the US Marine Corps Scout/Sniper Association. A few finger prints can be seen on the outside of the certificate, which is in Fine condition. A membership application card from the NRA and an owner’s manual are enclosed, both in Excellent condition. A green nylon sling in a plastic zip lock bag is also included, in Excellent condition.
Our Assessment: This Limited Edition Model 700 is designed to be a close reproduction of the Vietnam Era M40 Scout/Sniper rifle manufactured by Remington for the US Marine Corps. The rifle features a fluted, pistol grip butt stock with a Monte Carlo comb, hinged floor plate internal magazine, and a heavy, 24” barrel. The wood is oil finished and the metal surfaces are parkerized. This rifle is in Excellent condition and with the addition of a scope will be an accurate target or hunting rifle. Being in Excellent condition and housed in its original box makes it an excellent collector’s piece as well.
