Markings: The left of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER —  MODEL 94 44-40 WIN. / MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”, the top at the rear has an ovalled “WP” proof. The right side of the barrel is marked “Cheyenne Carbine”. The right side of the receiver is marked “Cheyenne” and with two Indians on horseback. The left side of the receiver shows an Indian hunting buffalo on horseback. The bottom of the receiver is marked with the serial number at the front.

Barrel Length: 20″

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded beaded blade atop a serrated ramped riser that is fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a U-notch elevator sight that is also fine adjustable elevation that is dovetailed to the barrel. The upper tang is equipped with a peep sight that is adjustable for elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth wood with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb, and a blued steel buttplate. There are three gold toned beads on either side of the forearm. There is a medallion on the right side of the buttstock depicting an Indian bust and marked “Cheyenne”. The wood shows some faint oil marks on the left side of the buttstock and a small dark stain on the left side of the forearm at the rear. The LOP measures 13 1/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has no wear. Overall, the stocks are in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore but there is some minor fouling in the grooves.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are a few spots of minor discoloration on the barrel towards the rear. The receiver metal shows light storage and handling marks. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The rifle has a half-cock safety and a lever safety. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Cheyenne Commemorative Winchester Model 94 Carbine in .44-40 WCF. These were manufactured in 1977 in memory of the Cheyenne Indian Nation. Chambered for the .44-40 cartridge, it wears a 20″ barrel with iron sights and has a 10-shot magazine capacity. There is a saddle ring on the left side of the receiver and a factory installed tang peep sight as well. This rifle retains about 97% original finish, has a clean bore and strong mechanics, and comes in its original box. Please see our photos and good luck!
