Our Assessment: Introduced by Colt as a lighter-weight version of the 1911, the smaller size of the Commander was popular and soon they were offered in a number of variations including different frame materials and calibers. This example is the Gunsite Lightweight Commander, with special features specifically requested by the famed Gunsite Academy. This includes a serrated short alloy trigger with over-travel adjustment, Commander style hammer, extended beavertail safety, Wilson extended thumb safety, Novak rear and Trijicon front sights, under-cut trigger guard, serrated frontstrap and serrated flat mainspring housing, beveled magazine well, National Match barrel, slim grips, Gold Cup-style serrated grip frame and all corners de-horned. The result is a fantastic carry pistol, especially if you’re looking to take some training courses at Gunsite! That said, this is a limited production pistol, and it would be a great addition to a Colt collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
