Our Assessment: Colt’s 1911 served the United States military through two World Wars and several other conflicts, is still in use by some units today, and has become popular with law enforcement, competitors, and recreational shooters across the nation. The design has seen some updates including a firing-pin block safety, higher profile sights, and more ergonomic grips, but the basic design and fantastic trigger remain the same after more than a century. This is a more recent version, the 1911 Classic. This specific pistol originally shipped as a “naked slide” variant, with no markings on the slide, making it the perfect pistol for custom engraving. A previous owner took full advantage of this feature and the slide now has deep, full-coverage foliate scroll relief engraving. The appearance of the pistol is further set off by the nitre blued small spots. It doesn’t appear to have seen much, if any use since the engraving was done. The pistol still has its inventory tag on the trigger guard! If you’re a fan of the 1911 and you’ve got an eye for engraving, this is the perfect pony to add to your stable. Please see our photos and good luck!
