Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / MOD.30AS MICRO-GROOVE BARREL CAL. 30-30 WIN.”. The left side of the barrel at the receiver is marked with a circled “JM” proof. The upper tang is marked “07010491”. The right side of the barrel is marked with the Marlin warning.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade that is dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a flat-top U-notch elevator sight that is dovetailed to the barrel. Equipped to the top of the receiver is a one-piece rail system for mounting an optic (not included). The left side of the receiver is drilled, tapped, and filled in two places for mounting a side optic (not included).
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth wood with a capped forearm, pistol grip, straight comb, and a hard rubber checkered Marlin buttplate. There is a factory test sticker on the bottom of the forearm. The buttstock shows some scattered little nicks. There are some hardly noticeable draglines and light compressions on the forearm. The LOP measures 13 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the hard rubber buttplate. The buttplate shows scattered light marks, the checkering is sharp. The stocks rate in about Fine-Plus overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. The bore shows an ME of about 1.3.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The only perceptible imperfections are sparse faint marks on the sides of the receiver and on the barrel. The markings are clear. The screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lever safety is present. There is also a receiver mounted safety that blocks the hammer. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The .30-30 Win. cartridge is said to have killed more deer in the United States than any other, so there is no doubt as to its utility. Manufactured in 1993, this great-looking rifle is in Fine-Excellent condition with a nice bore and solid mechanics. It is light and easy to carry so if you are going hunting in heavy brush, and/or don’t want to carry a big, heavy rifle around with you all day; this is a very practical choice.
